A humbling walk home from #SMCSea

Today was typical busy day for me that included dinner with friends and then Social Media Club Seattle event.

On my way home from the event I stopped by Ralph’s grocery which is a few blocks away from my house to get some junk food. As I was walking home I was greeted by a middle aged women outside the Subway sandwich shop at 3rd and Lenora; since these occurrences happen multiple times a day I am trained to continue walking but she got out ‘Me and my daughter’, before I continued to far away and I stopped. She continued ‘Me and my daughter are staying at the Angeline’s Center around the corner and I need a fork and a cup to heat up our Top Romen noodles and they want to charge me .50 in Subway’

I instruct her to follow me back down the street to Ralph’s where I purchased my ‘junk food’ and I’d get her utensils.  I did and as we were walking back I asked if her daughter would like my candy bar, which I handed over.

Retrospectively I am sadden, humbled and left double guessing what I did.  Should I have asked if I could get them anything else, brought them a real bowl from my house only a block away?  I’m so often caught up in my busy life that I often miss the humility, suffering and pain that others have, my tribulations are nothing comparable, and I’m humbled and grateful; now to start volunteering more and giving back!

life.is.beautiful

I recently came across something from Janus; the god of beginnings and transitions. ‘People have two sides. A good side, a bad side, a past, a future. And that we must embrace.’  Made me realize the journey I’ve been on and the time it has taken me time to teach myself not to let the negative energy of life and the world interrupt my life.  But I am there.

It might have all started with a dear friend of mine, Tony, the book The Secret truth and a continual progression of positive thoughts and energy out-weighing the negative; and a few years.

I think we all often get caught up in the small little negative instances, I know I do.  But when I look at what I have compared to others around the world; I am thankful and humbled.  I have a roof over my head, am able to live modestly and afford things that many others in the world cannot.   Even though I do have days; where I wonder why I don’t have that perfect job, man, body, car – I stop myself because I make my steps in life, these steps are formed by my foot prints; and when walked positively and confident, these things will come in time.  As my grandmother would say ‘Let go, and let god’.

With that I leave you Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir 2.0, ‘Sleep’ – which is amazing!

Healthcare; What I’m watching…

Healthcare; something I’ve worked in since the age of 15.5, so over 12 years whoa, way to age myself.  One of the things I’ve been watching over the past few years is the building of the Palomar Pomerado Health which is building the healthcare system of the future in partnership with multiple large innovative technology groups.  Something that I’m not to impressed with is the ability for them to put effective PR/Marketing and updates around the project thus far.  This is new, something others haven’t done…keep me (us) updated right”?!

In my local demographic Swedish is always leading the region in innovated cost effective centralization or everything from IT infrastructure to it’s presences on Social Media networks always venturing into aspects that others haven’t like the recent live-streaming a knee surgery to hosting conferences that attract top speakers and attendees.  This all well continued growth and expansions of facilities continued, the model they have is successful and something to continued to be watched.

With a major push toward healthcare reform and the appropriation of nearly $20 billion in federal stimulus funds as part of ARRA (The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act), 2009 was an action-packed year for the healthcare industry, particularly healthcare IT. 2010 was a year of continued adoption and preparing, 2011 is a year of how well the planning, adoption and operation models will perform.

It’s the cool thing, right? Vibram Five Fingers

First off, judge all you want :)  I’m usually one to embrace new trends but it took me awhile to fully ‘embrace’ the idea of the Vibram FiveFinger shoes.  But after joining the gym, seeing more people using them and a visit to the foot doctor who in the end convinced me to get a pair.

I have bad arches in my feed which I’ve used orthotics to help with but my trainer and doctor made a good point, my feet aren’t functionally built bad, but I instead have bad habits which lead to leg and foot problems.  Hmm, ok so how do these shoe’s help right?  Well the concept is to create a healthy natural shoe, the shoe design allows me to better realize and control the ‘bad habits/form’ I have.  I went with the TrekSport which offers more of a sole than most of the other designs.

After getting used to them so far I have ran, biked, swam and walked in them and I absolutely LOVE THEM, although they aren’t the most fashion friendly, easy on the eye shoe they are comfortable and great on the feel and over-all health of your feet, legs and body…my recommendation, go get a pair so we can be twins!
